How to Grow Chives Indoors

A mild oniony herb rich in the same beneficial sulfur compounds and vitamin K as its allium cousins.

How to grow it

  1. Sow seed thinly in a small pot of moist mix, or divide a clump from an existing plant.
  2. Keep in a bright spot and water when the top of the soil dries.
  3. Snip the grassy leaves with scissors about an inch above the soil.
  4. Cut from the outside of the clump first so the center keeps producing.

Give it a haircut now and then — regular trimming keeps it tender and productive.
