How to Grow Zucchini at Home

A mild, fiber-rich summer squash with vitamin C and potassium — and famously generous, often from just one or two plants.

Difficulty: BeginnerReady in 45–60 daysLight: Full sun, 6–8 hrsYou'll need: Bed or large container (give it room)

How to grow it

  1. After frost, sow a couple of seeds in warm soil in a sunny spot with room to sprawl.
  2. Water deeply and consistently at the base.
  3. Harvest young, about 6–8 inches, when they're most tender — and keep picking.
  4. Check daily at peak season; they go from tiny to baseball-bat overnight.

Pro tip

The more you pick, the more it makes — harvesting young keeps it cranking.
