How to Grow Radish at Home

The fastest reward in the garden — a peppery, mustard-family root with the same protective compounds as its sprouts, ready in under a month.

Difficulty: BeginnerReady in 25–30 daysLight: Full sun to part shadeYou'll need: Shallow bed or container

How to grow it

  1. Sow seed directly in cool weather, about half an inch deep.
  2. Thin the seedlings so each has room to swell into a root.
  3. Keep evenly moist for fast, crisp, mild radishes.
  4. Pull as soon as they size up — left too long they turn woody and hot.
